Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a crucial part of any therapeutic relationship.  At Farrell and Farrell Therapeutic Services we take confidentiality very seriously.  We will respect and guard the confidentiality of each individual client.  Your therapist will not disclose confidential information about you or your session except with written authorization or where mandated or permitted by law.

If at any time you may want us to share information about your treatment progress with a third party you would be required to sign a Release of Information form.

There are exceptions to the practice of confidentiality within the counselling relationship that psychologists and AMFT members are ethically and legally required to abide by.  Disclosure will occur under the following circumstance:

  1. If a client poses potential harm to him or herself.
  2. If a client poses potential harm to another person.
  3. If it is disclosed to the therapist that a child under the age of 16 is being harmed.
  4. If a client’s file is subpoenaed by a court of law.

During your initial assessment with your therapist, the guidelines of confidentiality will be reviewed.
